For John, BLUF: No ID to vote, but a Passport isn't good enough to own a gun? Nothing to see here; just move along.
From Blogger and Lawyer Eugene Volokh, in The Washington Post, we have this story of a Boston Man, Mr Phuong Ngo, the foreign-born son of a naturalized U.S. citizen, who tried to obtain a gun license and was rebuffed because his proof of citizenship was a US Passport. The Boston Police rejected the very thought.
So, he went to court, and in light of Ngo v. Evans (D. Mass. Nov. 7, 2014), the Boston Police Department folder and changed its rules.

To be eligible for a license to carry firearms in Massachusetts, an applicant must provide the appropriate licensing authority with, among other things, proof of residency, age, and U.S. citizenship. The constitutionality of these requirements is not at issue. [The citizenship requirement is likely unconstitutional, at least as to noncitizens who are permanent residents, see, e.g., this post and this one, but that is a story for another day. -EV]Good on Mr Ngo.
