The EU

Google says the EU requires a notice of cookie use (by Google) and says they have posted a notice. I don't see it. If cookies bother you, go elsewhere. If the EU bothers you, emigrate. If you live outside the EU, don't go there.

The History of the US Civil War, 1 November 1860

It seems The New York Times is going to track the US Civil War day-by-day.

Here is the link to today's item, "The Last Ordinary Day".  Their pitch:
One-hundred-and-fifty years ago, Americans went to war with themselves.  Disunion revisits and reconsiders America's most perilous period -- using contemporary accounts, diaries, images and historical assessments to follow the Civil War as it unfolded.
This sounds like it will be a great series.

Just finished The Fiery Trial, Abrham Lincoln and American Slavery by Eric Foner, and can recommend it highly.
